As Winter turns to Spring, many people will take to their yards and start their garden. Here are 5 different ways to help prevent back pain as you tend to your gardening tasks:
- Warm up before you start. Try a quick walk or some stretching before you begin.
- Reduce the weight of potted plants to avoid injury with lifting. Use proper lifting techniques if any lifting needs to be performed.
- Invest in tools that reduce how much bending, lifting, and twisting you do. Utilize wagons, garden scooters, and long-handled tools.
- Bring the plants to you. Try raised garden beds or putting your potted plants on tables to help reduce time bent over or kneeling down to reduce injury and pain.
- Take frequent breaks in order to rest your back. Make sure you have water with you as well so you can stay hydrated.
