As Winter turns to Spring, many people will take to their yards and start their garden. Here are 5 different ways to help prevent back pain as you tend to your gardening tasks:

  1. Warm up before you start. Try a quick walk or some stretching before you begin.
  2. Reduce the weight of potted plants to avoid injury with lifting. Use proper lifting techniques if any lifting needs to be performed.
  3. Invest in tools that reduce how much bending, lifting, and twisting you do. Utilize wagons, garden scooters, and long-handled tools.
  4. Bring the plants to you. Try raised garden beds or putting your potted plants on tables to help reduce time bent over or kneeling down to reduce injury and pain.
  5. Take frequent breaks in order to rest your back. Make sure you have water with you as well so you can stay hydrated.
