Home Safety Assessment
Home Safety Assessment
It is estimated that nearly 40,000 adults over the age of 65 are treated annually due to injuries from falls that occur in the home. These in-home, unintentional accidents lead to more hospitalizations and deaths than any other trauma in the aging adult population.
There are many contributing factors that we can not control, as they are natural processes of aging, such as declining vision, balance, and reaction time. However, there are some things that we can control that may reduce the likelihood of an unintentional fall at home.
iMove PT offers the in-home service of a Home Safety Assessment. A physical therapist will come into your home, using their trained eye and expertise, to make recommendations that could put you at a reduced risk of having an in-home related injury.
This could be anything from removing rugs, recommending grab bars for the shower, to moving frequently used items that require several trips up or down stairs. The placement of your furniture could need to be adjusted to provide a clearer and wider pathway. This is especially important for those that require an assisted device such as a cane, forward wheel walker, or wheelchair to get around in their home.
If you are not in this high risk population, you most likely know someone who is. If you or someone you know could benefit from iMove PT Home Safety Assessment please schedule a visit.
